The tablet may fail to charge due to a malfunction in the power controller or battery. However, in most cases, the issue is much simpler. The user may be using an insufficient power supply or may not fully understand the power consumption system of the device. Identifying the reason why the tablet, especially a newly bought one, fails to charge can be a straightforward process.
Does not charge when charging is indicated
If the device displays that it’s charging but doesn’t actually charge, there are three potential causes.
- Using an incomplete AC adapter for charging. Some modern manufacturers, like NTS and Sony, require their specific voltage converters to be used. They employ various techniques, from non-standard soldering of contact groups to controlling adapter parameters. Certain series of Samsung tablets also face this issue. Simply plugging the device into a socket with the provided AC adapter should initiate the charging process.

- If your tablet is not charging, it is possible that it is not receiving sufficient power from the adapter. Modern devices require a minimum current of 500 mA, which is the standard for a USB port on a computer. If the tablet’s battery is not charging, it may be worth considering using a more powerful AC adapter.
- The scenario where the tablet is plugged in but not charging could be attributed to the power consumption exceeding the incoming power. This could happen if the device is connected to a weak adapter while simultaneously engaging in activities such as network exchange, playing music, or watching movies. Another cause could be a malfunctioning charge control system. This can occur when installing energy-saving applications that are not compatible with the specific model, resulting in disruptions in the charging process and incorrect measurement of process parameters.
- The tablet’s poor charging performance can be attributed to several factors, one of which is the accumulation of dirt. It is important to carefully examine the condition of the charging contacts and clean them if necessary. Additionally, the tablet’s charging connector should fit snugly into the socket and make a clicking sound when fully inserted. If there is any looseness or lack of secure attachment, it would be advisable to have the tablet repaired and have the charging interface replaced.

Completely discharged and does not turn on to charge
If your tablet is completely drained and won’t charge, it means that the battery has been depleted below the safe threshold. In this situation, the power controller isn’t providing the optimal charging current. You can attempt to revive the battery using the following methods:
- Connect the tablet to a power source with a compatible adapter, and leave it for at least 8 hours. This will allow the battery to receive a minimal charging current and restore it to an acceptable level.
- If possible, remove the battery and charge it with a high-current device designed for this purpose. This is an option for well-known brands like Samsung and Lenovo.
- After opening the case, you need to detach the battery from the motherboard to proceed with the charging process. This step is necessary for lower-end devices such as Digma brand or Chinese-made products.
Pro Tip! To charge the battery, you have the option of using a Frog adapter or creating a DIY device using an AC adapter and a set of pins.

Flashing and not charging
A failure to charge your device permanently indicates a mismatch in the power supply parameters. In such cases, the controller attempts to deliver current to the battery, triggering an emergency stop. As a result, the tablet will flash, but charging will not occur.
This issue can arise when using an adapter that does not align with the system’s parameters. For instance, if the pin assignment or voltage level is incorrect. This situation is hazardous.
Important! It is particularly not advisable to utilize inexpensive products from the Chinese industry. These adapters can generate electrical interference that has the potential to severely harm the tablet’s hardware.

Does not charge from the cigarette lighter and computer port
All the reasons behind the absence or slow charging can be attributed to the lack of power transmission. When the tablet is connected to either the cigarette lighter or PC port, some of the voltage gets distributed through the cable, resulting in a longer charging time. To resolve this issue, it is advisable to use a shorter and thicker cable.
If the tablet is charging slowly or not at all when connected to a PC, it is advisable to first replace the cable and try connecting to another port. It is also recommended to check the system settings. By default, the power scenarios might have the USB port disabled or put it in sleep mode when there is no activity. In such cases, the tablet does not receive any power.

Doesn’t hold a charge
There are multiple factors that can contribute to a rapid loss of charge even when in standby mode.
- One possible reason is that the tablet’s battery may be defective or damaged. This could be a result of a factory defect or improper use, such as constantly recharging the device without letting the battery fully deplete. In such cases, the internal battery may experience a short circuit, which can lead to a rapid depletion of power even when the device is turned off.
- Another factor to consider is that background processes may still be running even in standby mode. It is recommended to disable network communication, Bluetooth, and any other power-hungry hardware modules to conserve battery life. However, if the battery still drains quickly, it may be necessary to monitor all active processes to identify any potential culprits.
- A third possible reason for the tablet’s inability to hold a charge is battery wear and tear. Over time, the battery’s capacity to hold a charge may decrease, resulting in a more rapid loss of power due to internal processes within the battery itself.
Other problems
If the tablet is only able to charge while turned off, it indicates that the amount of energy used is equal to the amount of energy consumed. In order to address this issue, you can enable power saving mode, close any resource-intensive applications, or consider using a more powerful power adapter.

If your tablet is charging very slowly, it may be because the charger you are using does not meet the system’s requirements. This could be due to using an adapter from another device, which the system detects as a parameter mismatch and automatically switches to slow charging mode. Another reason could be that the adapter does not provide enough power.
If your tablet is not charging at all, you should try using a different power source. Incomplete charging could be caused by a low voltage level at the input. The first step is to check the cleanliness of the contacts in the connector and the interface of the power adapter for any oxides. You should also make sure that the cable is securely connected to the tablet. If there are no excessive power losses due to resistance, it is recommended to replace the voltage converter with a more powerful one.
If your tablet is charging and discharging rapidly, then there is a singular explanation: you must replace the battery. The battery may have been excessively cooled due to extended periods of carrying the device in a bag. Alternatively, it could have physically deteriorated, having reached the maximum number of optimal charge-discharge cycles.
