The power supply to the satellite converter is controlled by switching on/off the antenna cable. In most cases, the power supply should be left on, as there is rarely a need to turn off the LNB power supply, unless the converter is being powered through a power injector.
There are several options available for the power supply: on/off, on/off, 13/18 (or one of them), normal or elevated. The term "elevated" refers to the fact that when using long lengths of cable, a portion of the supply voltage may be lost. However, this is not typically a concern, as the 13/18 Volt voltages already have a built-in reserve.
It’s important to note that the 13/18 volts not only serve as supply voltages, but also act as polarization switching signals. The 13V signal corresponds to the horizontal H (or left L) polarization, in the voltage range of 11-14 volts, while the 18V signal corresponds to the vertical V (or right R) polarization, in the voltage range of 16-20 volts.

Causes and remedies for short circuits in cables and connections
Short circuits can happen for various reasons, including:
- The insulation may physically deteriorate over time.
- Insulation can be damaged by rodents.
- Cable insulation can overheat significantly.
- Phase and neutral conductors might be directly connected.
Physical deterioration of insulation
Concealed wiring offers convenience and cost savings!
Insulating sheaths for wires are primarily composed of polyvinyl chloride. Vinyl material has the ability to maintain its operational properties for over a decade. However, exposure to harsh environments can considerably reduce the lifespan of the protective layer of wires. This factor applies to all types of insulating tape as well.
To prevent short circuits resulting from physical wear and tear of cables and wires, it is important to consistently monitor the condition of conductors and promptly replace them with new electrical products.
It is crucial to examine the condition of the lead wires if there is a loss of sound in either the right or left channel of your headphones or speakers. Inadequate soldering and low-quality insulation may result in a short circuit, leading to the failure of sound-producing devices. This issue is frequently observed in inexpensive Chinese products that employ flimsy, portable wiring.
Rodent damage to insulation
Mice and rats can often be to blame for causing short circuits. Cables that are installed in basements and underground are frequently at risk of being damaged by rodents. When these small animals gnaw through the protective sheathing of power conductors, they can cause bare wires to come into contact with one another and with the ground, resulting in a short circuit.
One way to prevent such issues with underground communications is by using armored cables, which have an additional layer of protection against physical damage, including from rodents. However, it is also important to address the problem at its source by implementing pest control measures in the habitats of these small pests.
Be aware! Rodents are a common sight in garages. Mice and rats often seek out the food supply stored in basement boxes and have no qualms about damaging the car’s wiring insulation. They can gnaw through the wires connected to the battery, starter, or alternator.
This can lead to a short circuit in the power wires, potentially draining the battery and even causing a car fire while driving.
The wires connected to the battery, starter, or alternator are at risk of being damaged by these rodents. Such damage can cause a short circuit in the power wires, resulting in battery drain and an increased risk of fire while driving.
Significant overheating of cable insulation
Due to excessive heat, the insulation is annihilated, and to make matters worse, it has the potential to ignite. Overheating transpires when there is a sudden surge in the amperes of current. Such surges are typically caused by voltage spikes in the sockets of the centralized power grid.
When it comes to safeguarding against voltage and current fluctuations, it is up to the homeowner to decide. At times, it is advisable to consult experts who can offer the most suitable approach to prevent cables and wires from overheating. An effective solution to counteract this negative factor involves the installation of automatic safety blocks.
The electrical system in a house or apartment is divided into separate branches, each powered from a specific automatic unit. The purpose of every device is clearly labeled.
The PC motherboard is connected to the socket through a voltage stabilizer in order to prevent it from overheating. Other electrical and electronic devices are also connected to stabilizers. In certain situations, a single stabilizer is installed at the power supply network’s input.
Direct connection of phase and neutral conductors
Due to direct contact between the phase and neutral conductors, an instantaneous short circuit arises, posing a risk of an electric arc and subsequent fire, resulting in considerable damage to the surrounding area. Moreover, a short circuit in an electrical room can have dire consequences.
How to fix a short circuit
If Tricolor states that there was a short circuit on the antenna, it is important to examine the coaxial cable that links the heads of the satellite dish to the receiver.
You should visually inspect the braid on the core and specifically check if any "hair" is protruding from it onto the connecting wires. Begin this inspection from one end of the cable and continue to the other, searching for any fractures or cracks that could potentially cause a short circuit in the future.

To ensure the cable’s reliability, you can perform a simple test using a flashlight and a battery, which can be extracted from a cellphone. Connect the light bulb, battery, and flashlight together with a wire to create a circuit. Place the cable’s core between them – if the light bulb lights up, there are no issues. However, if it doesn’t illuminate, there may be a break in the wire. Thus, it is important to individually test each wire of the cable in this manner. Each wire should produce a good ring when tested with the device, including the braid. Additionally, there should be high resistance between the braid and the core. If the light bulb does light up, then everything is functioning properly. However, if the light bulb doesn’t turn on and the resistance is low, it indicates a short circuit.
When encountering a short circuit, it is necessary to replace the cable with a new one specifically designed for outdoor use. To further protect the cable from environmental elements, one can utilize a corrugated tube.

Polish antenna grid for digital TV
In certain cases, the Lattice antenna can effectively receive digital television signals, particularly if you are not in close proximity to the broadcasting tower. Digital antennas have proven to be successful in these situations.
However, there have been situations where individuals using the older "Grille" type antennas have struggled to obtain a stable digital broadcasting signal. The signal may intermittently drop, causing the picture to become pixelated and the sound to be distorted. In some cases, certain packages of digital television may not work while others function normally. These issues can be attributed to over-amplification of the signal.
Fortunately, there are solutions available to address these problems. Let’s explore some options:
1) Sometimes simply disconnecting the power supply to the antenna can resolve the issue. However, this quick fix does not always solve the problem, necessitating more substantial measures.
2) To lower the voltage supplied to the amplifier, you can use an adjustable power supply. Alternatively, if you are using a digital set-top box, you can supply the antenna with 5 volts instead of the standard 12 volts. In order to do this, follow these steps: remove the power supply unit of the antenna and attach the TV cable with a regular TV plug. Then, go to the menu of the set-top box and find the option "turn on the power supply of the antenna". Finally, turn it on.
3) Access the amplifier board, the board located on the antenna itself, and either remove it completely or bypass it. In other words, you need to disconnect the TV cable from the amplifier board and connect it to the section where the amplifier is screwed in with nuts. The cable screen should be placed under one nut, and the center core should be placed under another. At the opposite end of the cable, instead of an adapter, insert a regular TV plug. No power supply is required in this case. As a result, the active antenna becomes passive and… voila! Everything works perfectly.
4) Discard this old, deteriorating antenna and purchase a proper DMV range antenna.

How to fix the problem
When experts in the field of technology are faced with the issue of how to remove the Warning LNB Short error, they recommend starting with simple steps such as checking the cable for continuity. A thorough visual inspection of the cable, from the antenna to the receiver, can help determine if there are any issues.
It’s crucial to carefully examine the connecting plug elements where the central core was installed and insulated. Mistakes can be made during the insulation process, such as metal elements of the braid touching the central core of the cable. This can result in a short circuit, causing the warning message to appear on the TV screen.
If moisture or disputes enter under the insulating elements or onto the joint components of the cable, it is likewise not acceptable. Should such instances be identified, the cable will need to be re-insulated, addressing the mistakes that caused the precedent leading to the devices’ inability to synchronize. In the event that the cable’s integrity is compromised throughout its perimeter, it will be necessary to replace the wire with a pristine product devoid of external damage.
If the cable and connection contacts with the antenna and set-top box have already been examined and there are no doubts, the issue may lie in the failure of the tuner board itself. This can occur due to incorrect connection, voltage fluctuations, moisture, or debris, causing the board to burn out. As these nuances are difficult to detect visually, if there are concerns about the functionality of the set-top box, one can attempt to connect the tuner to a known working device from acquaintances, friends, or relatives. If the problem is not resolved, it will be necessary to take the tuner to a service center where specialists can diagnose and repair the issue, or replace the receiver as per warranty obligations.
The warning message "LNB Short" often appears on the TV screen due to incorrect device synchronization settings. The specific settings details are often outlined in the manual for the digital receiver, allowing users to independently adjust the receiver’s digital broadcasting by following step-by-step instructions. One common mistake users make when modifying the settings is selecting the wrong synchronization mode. For instance, if the user does not have an active antenna but relies on cable TV broadcasting, they will need to manually change the settings from automatic mode to using synchronization through a passive TV antenna. The process for switching modes varies among different transmitter companies and manufacturers, so users will need to explore the receiver’s menu and consult the device’s manual. This option is often found in the "modes" section or specified as the power-off position on the antenna output.
Occasionally, in order to eliminate the Warning LNB Short message displayed on the screen, it may be sufficient to disconnect the power being supplied to the antenna via a specialized component known as a power supply unit. Power supply units, which are typically included with antennas, are only necessary for specific devices that are designed to receive digital signals and operate on a five-volt power supply. For analog TV antennas, the use of these devices is unnecessary, and in some cases, it may even hinder the ability to transmit a signal to the TV.
What is LNB short on the TV screen: how to eliminate the problem.
Contemporary television models have undergone significant changes compared to their predecessors. They now offer a wide range of features, including internet access, the ability to pause your favorite program, or even communicate with family members on a spacious and comfortable screen.

Problems with the cable
One common reason for the shorting of the LNB IN for Tricolor TV is often due to damage to the cable. Some of the cases are related to the use of low-quality products during installation. Coaxial cables designed for indoor use tend to break and fail quickly when used outdoors.
Visually inspect the cable to identify any existing damage. To repair it, cut out the damaged section and replace it with a jumper wire terminated with F-connectors.
There might be no sound on the TV set-top box from a flash drive. Here are some solutions to fix sound issues on set-top boxes:
To prevent problems with the cable structure, it is recommended to:
- Use wires suitable for outdoor installation.
- Secure the cable line properly to avoid breaking or abrasion of the outer insulation from rubbing against walls or other objects.
- When there is a potential danger of physical harm, it is advisable to enclose the wire within a plastic corrugated tube.
Properly installing a cable line in compliance with guidelines will result in a longer lifespan than the manufacturer’s estimated time for the wire used. Therefore, it is not advisable to cut corners when purchasing the wire and any additional materials. This article provides useful tips for selecting a coaxial cable.
Why do not show some channels
Frequently, Telecarta subscribers inquire as to why certain channels are not available. Similar to other providers, Telekarta periodically modifies its programming lineup by adding new channels and adjusting the frequencies of existing ones. Users are promptly notified of all these updates through the automatic sending of SMS messages.
However, people may not always take note of these notifications.
To refresh the channel list, simply reset the set-top box settings to their default values and initiate an automatic search once more.
Lack of payment
Even the most meticulous individual can sometimes forget to pay their subscription on time. That’s why, if the equipment is functioning properly but the TV screen displays a message from Telekarta stating that there is no access, the first step is to check the balance status. This can be easily done by any authorized user through myAlpari on the service provider’s official website.
If the balance shows zero, you have several options to replenish your account:
- Top up from your mobile phone account;
- Make a payment through internet banking;
- Visit a communication salon and make a payment there;
- Use a payment terminal to add funds to your account;
- Visit the bank’s cash desk and make a deposit.
Free channels are not shown
When it comes to installing a satellite dish, some subscribers have the expectation of being able to access federal channels without having to pay. While it’s true that Telekarta offers a list of free TV channels, it’s important to note that not all federal programs are included in this list – only a portion of them.
Each satellite transmits what is known as FTA (Free-to-Air) television channels, which are channels that can be accessed without the need for an access card. One example of an FTA channel is an information channel. To test whether the satellite dish is receiving a signal, you can switch to the info channel. If there is both an image and sound on this channel, the next step would be to switch to "Match" or "Russia 1". After this, it’s recommended to leave the receiver alone for around 10-15 minutes and then check if any other TV channels appear.
If the infokanal refuses to display the image, one must search for the issue elsewhere.
How to restore broadcasting after payment
If the reason for the scrambled signal was the delayed payment, you can restore the broadcasting by depositing money into your account. There are two ways to do this.
First, you can use the Personal Cabinet:
- Go to https://www.telekarta.tv/ and log in.
- Click on the "Restore broadcasting" tab.

List of basic errors of Tricolor TV
The main issues are as follows:
1. The decoder has been displaced from its designated location due to inclement weather and strong winds. This can result in intermittent or non-existent signals due to poor weather conditions and limited visibility. Additionally, the satellite signal may not be properly focused.
2. There may be a faulty connection cable between the decoder and the receiver.
3. The power supply unit of the receiver may have malfunctioned. This unit can be either internal or external.
4. The TV may have the incorrect analog input selected. It should be set to AV or HDMI.
5. The paid service package may have expired.
6. The smart card may not have been installed correctly on the board.
7. There may be intermittent signal issues caused by problems with the satellite dish. The mounting bracket may have become loose.
8. The signal decoder on the dish may have failed.
9. The TV screen displays a message that says "short circuit." There seems to be an issue with the cable connection. It is important to immediately unplug the receiver and replace the cord.
No access to viewing
Subscribers often encounter the problem of seeing a message that says "No access to viewing."
There are several potential causes for this error:
- The payment for the service package has expired.
- Activation after payment has not been completed.
- The smart card is not inserted correctly.
- The software has not been updated.
- Signal reception failure due to inclement weather.
Smart card is not detected by the receiver
When the inscription appears, it means that the card has been incorrectly inserted into the device’s socket by the subscriber. The receiver itself is a complex digital device that contains various components such as boards, power supply, signal receiver, and transcoder. On the other hand, the smart card is an electronic board that has a contact group. If there is no circuit closure (either because the card is not fully inserted or because it is inserted the wrong way), the receiver will be unable to read the signals transmitted from the board.
The second reason for this problem is software inconsistency. Tricolor TV frequently updates its programs, which sometimes leads to compatibility issues between new smart cards and outdated software on the receiver. To resolve this issue, you will need to update the programs and restart the receiver. If the problem persists, you may need to reset the receiver to its factory settings and update the software once again.
No signal
There are several possible causes for seeing the message "No signal" on your screen. It could be due to bad weather conditions, such as heavy rain or strong wind, which can disrupt the satellite signal. Another possibility is that the mounting bolts of your satellite dish may have become loose, causing it to lose alignment. Additionally, it’s possible that the wrong input is selected on your TV set, preventing it from receiving the signal. Lastly, there may be an issue with the power supply unit of your receiver.
To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:
- Select the AV or HDMI input on your TV corresponding to the receiver.
- Perform a factory reset on your TV and then start a channel search.
- Visit the personal cabinet on the official website of Tricolor TV to check your payment and the activation status of any paid packages you have.
No sound
If you are experiencing a lack of audio, there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue. First, ensure that the "Mute" button on your TV or receiver remote control is not engaged. Next, try power cycling the receiver by turning it off, waiting 30 seconds, and then turning it back on. Additionally, double-check that the connection cable is securely plugged in and not damaged. If the problem persists, navigate to the "Menu" settings on your device, select the option for factory settings, and perform a reset. Finally, make sure to update the software after completing these steps to ensure optimal performance.
Problems with the image
There are four potential issues that can arise with the image: lack of picture with sound, pixelated broadcasting, rippling of the image, and freezing of the picture.
The most common solution to address these problems is to replace the connection cable. Additionally, in adverse weather conditions, the decoding tip on the satellite dish may become dislodged.
How to get rid of LNB Short error on the TV screen

As mentioned previously, the existence of this message points to an issue with the antenna wire. Consequently, it is imperative to examine the entirety of the path – from the exterior antenna all the way to the connector which directly links to the display device (TV).
In the first instance, it is necessary to cleanse the connector. This can be accomplished with relative ease:
Power down the TV, detach the antenna cable from it;
Using a brush soaked in alcohol (it is preferable to use medical alcohol, as alcoholic beverages such as cognac or wine will not suffice. Vodka is a possible alternative, but in this case it is advisable to blow out the connector after the procedure), thoroughly cleanse the exterior and interior of the antenna connector;
Similarly, cleanse the connector itself directly on the wire;
Reattach the antenna and attempt to view a few programs.
If the error persists, it indicates a higher level of short circuit. It is possible that there is a problem with the connection of current-carrying conductors to the connector or "horns".
It is also worth checking the antenna gain, especially if you have a device that supports additional current supply. Without disconnecting your TV, try cutting off the power supply to the amplifier. If the error message no longer appears, then the problem lies there. You may need to switch to a non-amplified configuration or consider repairing the amplifier.
On the Antenna Short screen
There is an issue with the TV screen displaying "Antenna Short" and the set-top box not responding to the remote control or buttons. This message indicates a short circuit in either the antenna or the cable connected to it. There are two possible scenarios for this occurrence:
- The most common reason for this problem is when an antenna without an amplifier is being used, but the power supply to a non-existent amplifier is enabled in the set-top box’s menu. It is important to remember that passive antennas do not require a power supply as there is no need to power them. Furthermore, certain types of passive antennas can become short-circuited.
- It is correct that you are using an active antenna (with an amplifier) and have the power to the antenna enabled in the menu. However, occasionally a short circuit can occur, such as when the amplifier fails. This is more common with outdoor antennas after a thunderstorm. Additionally, a short circuit can occur in the TV cable, typically as a result of careless installation, particularly at connection points. In very rare cases, a short circuit can also occur in the screw-on antenna plugs due to a defect. I have personally experienced this a couple of times. Digital antennas
How to remove "Antenna short"
Reason #1 – To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Unplug the set-top box.
- Disconnect the antenna from the set-top box.
- Turn on the set-top box without connecting the antenna.
- Go to the menu and navigate to the "Setup" section.
- Select the "Antenna Power" subsection.
- Turn off the antenna power.
- Finally, reconnect the antenna to the set-top box.
Note that the menu options may vary depending on your set-top box model, but the main idea is to locate the option to enable/disable power supply to the antenna and disable it.
For reason #2 (when using an antenna amplifier), try the following:
- Unplug the set-top box from the power socket.
- Inspect and fix any short circuit issues with the antenna amplifier.
- Once the short circuit is resolved, plug in the set-top box and turn it on.
A little distracted, let’s continue the examples with antennas:
If you reside around 25-30 kilometers away from the nearest TV tower or even further, you may require a different approach to ensure quality reception at your location.
While the power of the transmitter plays a significant role, a small outdoor antenna can usually suffice if the distance is around 25 kilometers. A couple of examples include the DMV antenna or the broadband "Kolibri" antenna, both of which are illustrated at the beginning of this post. Near my area, a passive DMV antenna with a boom length of approximately 80 cm can ensure reliable reception without needing to raise the antenna higher than two meters above ground level, assuming there is a clear line of sight within a distance of 25 km. Alternatively, a good active room antenna can be used on the first floor, also taking advantage of a clear line of sight.
Another option is to consider a Grid-type antenna, although there are some nuances to consider, which I elaborated on at the end of the article.
Keep in mind, the presence of tall buildings along the path to the signal source, such as the TV tower, can cause significant interference. However, there is a solution to this issue by capturing the reflected signal. In this case, the antenna should be directed towards the neighboring buildings, rather than the tower itself.
When selecting an antenna, it is crucial to consider the distance from the transmitter and the difficulty of the terrain (e.g., living in a lowland). The more distant or challenging the terrain, the stronger the antenna needs to be. A simple principle for determining antenna power is the length of the antenna boom, which directly corresponds to its own gain without the use of an amplifier. For instance, the active antenna shown in the photo below is capable of capturing signals from distances of 60 kilometers or more in our area.
This antenna has proven to be highly effective in challenging environments, such as houses situated in low-lying areas. Its length is approximately 1.7 meters, but there are also antennas available that are less than 4 meters long.
Take, for instance, the active antenna shown in the photo below. In our region, this antenna is capable of pulling in signals from distances of 60 kilometers or more. It has been successfully utilized in the most demanding locations, including houses situated in strong lowland areas.
In addition to its length, the presence of an amplifier is also crucial in difficult conditions or when the TV tower is located far away. In other words, the antenna must be active to ensure optimal performance.
There are various antenna variations in which three booms are used instead of one. This design greatly enhances the antenna’s ability to amplify signals, making it a highly effective tool when used in conjunction with an amplifier. It becomes a powerful trap for TV signals.
However, don’t be too quick to chase after this antenna. It is only necessary in extremely difficult reception conditions. In most cases, there are other, much cheaper options that will suffice. Additionally, if the signal in your area is already good, the amplifier in the antenna will only cause interference. It’s like adding butter to spoil the porridge. An example of this can be seen below.
Summarizing the results
These suggested solutions for resolving the issue of a lack of connection between the antenna and the digital set-top box, as indicated by the Warning LNB Short message, will assist you in fixing the problem independently and effortlessly. In the event that the aforementioned methods do not yield the desired outcome, viewing television in digital quality may not be possible, and the problem may lie in a technical malfunction of either the TV or the receiver, which can only be addressed by a specialist. Prioritize considering the final option of requesting the assistance of a professional at your home: while you will incur a cost for the receiver’s connection services, this approach consistently achieves a one hundred percent positive resolution.
